Frozen Solid

Oh my goodness... I have NEVER been as cold cycling as I was today.

Looking for a bit of a change in scenery, we headed out to the Silverado Trail in Napa.

Apparently I think that I live in Southern California, as I headed out without really thinking about the fact that I might need to wear some more layers than usual. I will NEVER do that again.

I warned Christopher... I will be in the shop this week looking for some winter wear. I am glad this happened now, as if I had discovered that I was not properly attired during "The Ride" next month, I would have been in some serious trouble!

You know, Jen, you really aren't a California girl....you should know to put on layers IN THE WINTER. Tsk tsk....

I've got some extra body fat I could spare for you. (And a beach ball for a belly.) Everyone in San Diego is currently walking around in coats and scarves and I'm in a sleeveless maternity top, some capri pants, and a pair of flip-flops. My students think I'm insane.

The Ride?
In any case... wool socks, booties, bib knickers (they are the bomb!), thermal base, long sleeve jersey, thermal vest/jacket, winter gloves, and a winter cycling cap keep me pretty happy through the winter. Now if I can just manage to stay vertical the rest the winter, then that would be good. :)

Ant, thanks for the shopping list! : )

The Ride - San Francisco to Santa Barbara. Kill me now.

Awww, you'll be fine. Now you know. Pack some of those chemical warmers too. Sports basement has them.

One question, Jen....how cold does it get where you are cycling? I don't recall the SF area as being quite so arctic....

It was like 34, and foggy, so we were wet on top of being cold. It was not fun. : (

uhh. I know you city folks think the east bay is the equivalent of Siberia, but you do know that it always warmer over here in the winter then Napa? And I can even route a ride that goes by a winery if you want. :)

Jennie-

Cold as it may have been, I bet you still somehow managed to look hot(?)

Have a nice holiday. Hope your ride goes well.

I'm recommending PCTR Pacifica 21K if you are around in mid-January.

Will,

Hardly, but thank you.

I looked up the Pacifica run and unfortunately I cannot participate, as I will be on day one of a 450 mile bike ride! YIKES!

Happy Holidays!
